Home and Housing Grants

There are plenty of government grants available for housing that cover a variety of housing needs. This housing assistance can be used for a variety of different purposes.

The main source of funding for housing grants is the agency HUD (the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a Federal agency). Most HUD grants are offered locally by a local HUD office or in some cases by HUD partners with local community groups and companies providing HUD’s service.

Be sure to check out home and housing assistance programs at your city, county or state housing agency. They also offer a number of home and housing grants (and aid) you might be looking for. You can find your local housing authority by visiting the following link: http://www.phada.org/ha_list.php

Most housing grants and housing assistance come in the form of government subsidized loans and indirect grants. This means that the government does not directly give you the money, but they can help you save a lot and achieve your housing goals. For example, you could get a lower interest on your mortgage when HUD gets it insured for you. Also, you can save anywhere from a couple of thousand dollars to well over $10,000 in downpayment costs when purchasing a home.

Types of Housing Grants Available:

Energy Efficiency Grants

Grants that are provided to help you save on your home energy bills and reduce negative impact on the environment.

Home Improvement & Repair Grants

Programs that provide funding or help you to save money on home improvements / repairs. These include grant programs for elderly, low-income, rural, veterans and special needs populations. Also many local housing authority provide grant-funded / subsidized low-interest to zero-interest loans and sometimes emergency repairs assistance to local communities.

Homebuyer Grant Programs

Grants and financial aid programs to help you achieve your dream of home ownership. Home Ownership grants may provide assistance with down payments and closing costs as well as mortgage insurance.

Home Refinancing Programs

Refinancing programs help you save money through mortgage refinancing, mortgage insurance and home owner grants.

Section 8 and Rental Assistance Programs

Rental help programs provide affordable housing to low-income, elderly and special needs populations. Some of these programs may also provide discounts on utility bills.

Rural Housing Grants

Rural housing grant programs provide assistance to low-income rural Americans for the purpose of home renovation and/or repair or to help a disabled person stay in their home.

State Housing Grants

Each state offers their own state housing grants. These are funds to help low-income individuals and families with housing needs.

How can I go about finding help.Resoure for buying a home. When the banks tell you it take 2yrs.to get alone.

    • Muhammad Talal

A housing grant doesn’t necessarily take 2 years – It normally takes from a few weeks to 2-3 months max. You can apply for one by clicking on Apply Now link above!

  7. Lulyjean Simmons

You cannot get a loan after you been discharge from bankruptcy and if so may i still apply for the grant

    • Muhammad Talal

Hi Lulyjean, it depends what kind of housing grant you’re applying for. If it’s a homebuyer grant, then in some states you may be able to get a government backed mortgage, which is preliminary for getting a downpayment assistance grant, while in other states or counties, it might be difficult (after bankruptcy). But there are many other housing grants like rental assistance, weatherization assistance & minor repairs, home energy & utility bills payment assistance, mortgage reduction assistance etc which have nothing to do with your bankruptcy and you can totally get them :)

    • Muhammad Talal

You can however also get 50% off while purchasing a home if you purchase a foreclosed home. You can click here to find one in your area. Hope that helps !!
